Shetland Aerogenerators Ltd has been granted the highly respected ‘Granted’ status from the Fit For Offshore Renewables (F4OR) programme.
The achievement follows successful completion of a comprehensive 12-month assessment process delivered by the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult, the UK’s leading technology innovation and research centre for oHshore renewable energy.
Shetland Aerogenerators’ capabilities, industry expertise and operational excellence were reviewed and evaluated, and this achievement demonstrates the company’s high standards and ability to meet the requirements for success within the offshore wind sector.
The F4OR programme aims to strengthen and develop the UK’s supply chain to support the rapidly expanding oHshore renewables industry. The F4OR Scottish Islands and Coastal Communities cohort was sponsored by ScottishPower Renewables (SPR), Ocean Winds, Northland Power and ESB.
Family-owned and rooted in the Shetland community, Shetland Aerogenerators has pioneered clean energy in Shetland through locally delivered projects and now delivers maintenance services using knowledge and experience, built over decades operating Burradale Wind Farm, one of the world’s most productive wind farms.
Shetland Aerogenerators Ltd Chief Executive David Thomson said:
“Achieving Fit 4 Offshore Renewables ‘granted’ status reflects the effort that our staff have put in recently. We’ve been delivering services to clients onshore that we can now consider offering offshore as well with justification. Over the last few years, we’ve expanded our activities with an eye to the future and invested in our team for work that could be years away. It’s great to have that effort recognised.
“The renewables sector nationally needs to double the number of employees just to carry out the roles for projects already identified until 2030. Locally, we’ve long had a disproportionate number of jobs in energy and the transition from oil and gas to future energy systems is critical to keeping those jobs here in Shetland. Offshore renewable energy projects are an opportunity to develop a sustainable pipeline of activity for
highly-skilled workers in Shetland. Shetland Aerogenerators continues to back the contribution that our islands can make to achieving our climate change and energy security challenges.”
Dr Davood Sabaei, Supply Chain Programme Manager at ORE Catapult, said:
“Huge congratulations to the team at Shetland Aerogenerators on achieving ‘granted’ status, following successful completion of the F4OR Scottish Islands and Coastal Communities programme.
“Achieving ‘granted’ status gives companies the best chance to grow and become more competitive, providing them with a platform to win new contracts. In delivering the programme, we strive and work with industry partners to ensure it provides a route for success within the sector, and we wish Shetland Aerogenerators all the very best as they continue their exciting journey.”
